Luciano Pavarotti (Modena, 12 October 1935 - Modena, 6 September 2007) was an Italian tenor.

Remembered among the ten greatest tenors of all time, with a shrill voice in the treble and rich in the middle, with a clear phrasing and clear stamp, it was also known for its great humanity and generosity.

With Pavarotti & Friends and its many collaborations (among which it is worth mentioning in particular the establishment of the Tre Tenori group, with Plácido Domingo and José Carreras), it has consolidated a popularity that has given it worldwide fame even outside the 'musical field [4], so as to be considered one of the greatest Italian tenors of all time. With over 100 million copies sold worldwide, it is estimated, also for sales, among the very first singers of any musical genre, as well as the most successful Italian singer at international level. With Enrico Caruso, Mario Del Monaco, Giuseppe Di Stefano, Beniamino Gigli and Tito Schipa, one of the "historical" tenors of world fame remains.

Luciano Pavarotti was the son of Fernando Pavarotti (1912-2002) and Adele Venturi (1915-2002), whose marriage also gave birth to his younger sister, Gabriella (1940-2013). His father was a baker in the Arma dei Carabinieri, and he was delighted to sing at an amateur level in a small association of non-professional singers, the "Corale Gioachino Rossini" of Modena and passed on to his son the passion for opera music, finding in the young just as much interest.

The young Pavarotti decided not to immediately start a real musical career, thus avoiding the conservatory. For a long time, however, he devoted his studies to teaching, to become a teacher of physical education and then to teach elementary school for two years, after having enrolled in the Magisterial Institute of Modena (the same school also attended by Francesco Guccini) . Although he continued his teaching activity, he had not abandoned his singing studies with the tenor Arrigo Pola (of which he will retain the canons and principles in his future career) and at the departure of these for Japan, three years later, he continued his preparation. with the teacher Ettore Campogalliani, with whom he perfected the technique of phrasing and concentration.

By his own admission, the two remained forever his only and honored masters. In the following years, when he was fully employed in the world of opera and always continuing his studies, the young tenor obtained a first musical success in one of his performances with his father and the Chorus Rossini in Wales, during the Llangollen Festival where the choir won first prize.

Nessun dorma is a famous romance for tenor of Giacomo Puccini's Turandot.

It is intoned by the character of Calaf at the beginning of the third act. Immersed in the night of Beijing, in total solitude, the "unknown Prince" awaits the dawn of the day, when he can finally conquer the love of Turandot, the ice princess.
