PDF Music sheet

Hi Members,
Can anybody  give some Idea or such  hints how to shrink PDF music sheet into less pages.
I am trying to convert the PDF files to XML format so with a software i can import them . Then i can Edit them such as  copy/ paste bars change keys and cut unwanted parts..
But the question is... during this process from PDF to XML sometimes i get errors in music notes, chords,.... etc etc
Are there any other methods ?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
