Gino Paoli (Monfalcone, 23 September 1934) is a singer-songwriter, musician and Italian politician.

Wrote and starred in the wide popularity songs, such as The sky in a room, Cat, What is it, Endless, Sapore di sale, A long love story, Four friends; He has participated in 6 editions of the Sanremo Festival, the last being in 2014 as a super host; He collaborated with several colleagues to the creation of albums and hit singles; He has composed music for film soundtracks.

Gino Paoli was born in Monfalcone father of Campiglia Marittima Tuscany, naval engineer, and mother Julian. Many of his relatives on the maternal side were involved in the exodus Julian-Dalmatian and some lost their lives during the ethnic cleansing committed by Yugoslav regular and paramilitary units . A few months after his birth, the family moved to Genoa, however, in the Pegli neighborhood, city to which will remain forever linked.

The love of music receives the pianist mother. Gino, little inclined to study, attends a group of friends who share this same passion and that will form the nucleus of the so-called Genoese School: Luigi Tenco (with whom he formed the group "The DEVILS OF ROCK"), Bruno Lightman, Fabrizio de André, Umberto Bindi, Joe trails, Giorgio Calabrese, the brothers Gian Piero and Gianfranco Reverberi.

Will own the latter, professional musicians, to be convened in Milan Paoli and Bindi his friends and Tenco for hearing at the Dischi Ricordi, recently constituted as a record company. Under the artistic direction of Nanni Ricordi, Gino made his first 45 turns in 1959 (Your hand, not occupatemi the phone, Speechless, Sassi) without getting any success. Same fate seems to touch the next Cat, autobiographical song published in 1960, which in the first quarter sells just over a hundred copies. An incessant buzz, however, means that the latest arrivals in the song list, attracting the attention of the experts and interest of lyricist Mogol, which acts as a nominee to the young Paul, not yet a member of SIAE.

Mogol proposes to Mina, singer already established, to affect the sky in a room, written by Paul, but that fact bears his signature as a lyricist and that of Renato Angiolini teacher (who signed with the pseudonym Toang) as a composer. The enormous sales success of this song, inspired by Paul from a brothel, where she was one day , and remained in the charts for over six months, marks the final breakthrough as a songwriter Gino Paoli.

In 1961 Gino knows Ornella Vanoni and intertwined with her a romantic relationship, which inspired some of his most famous love songs: Endless, Although, Me everywhere. 1961 is also his first participation in the Sanremo Festival with a man alive, presented in tandem with the previous year's winner, Tony Dallara.

In the same year he wrote to Blanche Dubois song Lovers are always alone, with which the Istrian singer participates in April at Diano Marina  Festival; Paoli subsequently affect the song, which in the Lazarev version will remain unpublished.

Also in 1961 he begins his problems with alcohol, born as a joke after a challenge with Sergio Bernardini, owner of Compass Focette, and that will go on for 15 years, until 1976. After his brother's death in that period and caused by abuse of alcohol, Paoli will decide to detox from whiskey .

In 1962, during an extensive tour in the Italian local, meets Stefania Sandrelli, then young actress, and falls in love. From their bond, considered outrageous by the press and public opinion (Paul was married and expecting a child from the lawful wife, while Sandrelli was still a minor), born Amanda, now established actress. In September of that year while transiting at high speed due to Palmanova in Milan, reckless overtaking "Juliet" led by Paul caused a head-on collision in which you die the friend Vittorio Faber. Following this incident, March 12, 1964 Paoli was sentenced to seven months' imprisonment with the benefit of the conditional by the Court of Milan.
