Giovanni "Gianni" Pettenati (Piacenza, October 29, 1945) is an Italian singer and music critic. He is also the author of plays and several books on the history of Italian music.

His real name is John. Six years after he won a singing contest, and at eight years old he began his musical studies; as a boy he was a member of the Piacenza local dramatic society playing Pirandello, but with music that Gianni Pettenati became famous.

Gianni Pettenati it debuted in 1965, winning the Bellaria Festival in April; then it joins the Juniors and in 1966, accompanied by the same group, he recorded his first 45 laps, a cover of Like a Rollin 'Stone by Bob Dylan entitled "Like a rolling stone."

The next 45 laps, once again with the Juniors, is "The Superman" (cover of "Sunshine Superman" by Donovan), with the B-side "You can make me cry" (cover of "I Put a Spell on You" by Screamin 'Jay Hawkins, engraved with the arrangement of the release of Alan Price), the Italian text of Mogol.

In 1966 he affects what remains his most successful, "Bandiera Gialla" (Albert - Nisa - S.Duboff - A.Kernfeld), Italian version of "The pied piper" engraved the same year by Patty Pravo (trademark of the famous song Piper club in Rome), the song is still one of the best-selling Italian songs and appreciated by the general public.
