Zucchero, Adelmo Fornaciari pseudonym (Reggio Emilia, 25 September 1955), is an Italian singer-songwriter and musician.

Its peculiarity is that it has merged the soul and blues music, typical of the southern United States, with Italian music; the result is a Mediterranean and innovative blues that has led him to be one of the greatest interpreters of this kind in Italy.

In his career he has sold over 60 million records  and is one among the Italians artists who sold the most records. His album Gold, frankincense and beer was for a long time the most sold in the history of Italian music in the world, with over 8 million copies sold , then overtaken by Romanza by Andrea Bocelli . With the performance Live at the Kremlin on 8-9 December 1990 Sugar is the first Western artist to perform in the Kremlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall. In 1994 is the only Italian and European artists who participated at the Woodstock Festival. In 1996 he was the first Italian artist to appear on The Faber Companion to 20th Century Popular Music, the most authoritative encyclopedia of modern music of the twentieth century  . His concert on 8 December 2012 the Higher Institute of Art in Havana is considered the biggest concert ever held by a foreign singer in Cuba under embargo   with the presence of 70,000 spectators. Since 2016, with the eleven concerts held at the Arena di Verona during the Black Cat World Tour, holds the record for most number of dates at this location during a single tour (record held by Luciano Ligabue with ten show in 2009). Also holds the record for a non-Italian opera singer at the Royal Albert Hall, with six concerts since 2004  .

His music has crossed national borders thanks to collaborations with international artists such as Joe Cocker, The Blues Brothers, Ray Charles, Sting, Bono, Brian May, Eric Clapton, Tom Jones, Bryan Adams, Peter Gabriel, Mousse T., Sérgio Mendes, Sheryl Crow, Vanessa Carlton, Mark Knopfler, John Lee Hooker, Miles Davis, BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Iggy Pop, Alejandro Sanz and 2Cellos. As for Italians artists collaborated with Andrea Bocelli, discovered and launched on the international market by the Sugar [8], Luciano Pavarotti, Francesco De Gregori, Francesco Guccini, Mina, Elisa, Giorgia, Fiorella Mannoia, Ivano Fossati, Nomadi, Jovanotti , Mogol, Ennio Morricone, Gino Paoli, Mia Martini, Dodi Battaglia, Maurizio Vandelli, Fio Zanotti, Vasco Rossi, Pino Daniele, Luciano Ligabue, Claudio Baglioni and Lucio Dalla.

Adelmo Fornaciari was born in Roncocesi, a fraction (later became suburb) of Reggio Emilia, 25 September 1955. His father's name was Joseph and his mother Rina Bondavalli (1929-2001). The stage name, Zucchero, comes from the nickname given to him by an elementary school teacher.

His first passion was football: the young Adelmo was noticed at a young age and affiliated companies from Reggiana to play as a goalkeeper in the team of the chicks. In 1968 the family moved from Adelmo Fornaciari Roncocesi in Forte dei Marmi. Here Sugar attended the junior high schools. Three years later, in 1971, Fornaciari the family moved again, this time in Avenza, a Carrara district. Avenza, Sugar attended for five years I.T.I.S. "Galileo Galilei".

He graduated as an electronics technician, he decided, given his great passion for animals, to enroll at the University in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine; after passing 39 exams (of 51) he decided to leave everything to follow his real passion: music. To teach the basics on the guitar was an American, a fellow university. During the long apprenticeship he has held various jobs including the turner, the butcher and the baker.

It is known his passion for hats, in fact he always wears a different one in his shows (claiming to have 350) .
Sugar is inspired by American blues, reviving and contaminating it with Italian music: the result is a typically melodic blues and "sweet", which was appreciated by the big names in international blues like Miles Davis, Eric Clapton and John Lee Hooker, with Sugar which has collaborated in the course of his career. The themes of his songs ranging between love, friendship, everyday life, gender and roots. The latter, for whom it is always recognizable in every album the reference to the Po Valley, had the highest expression in the known Chocabeck concept album. Characteristic of his lyrics is the creation of neologisms, which are born from the merger of Italian and Anglo-Saxon terms, with the aim of a continuous search for interchangeable terms between the two languages, similar in sound and meaning. Sugar, in fact, has often translated into English his songs for the Internat Market

Sugar is separated and has two daughters born of the first marriage: Irene, also a singer, and Alice. Currently has a girlfriend, Francesca Mozer, with whom he has a son, Adelmo Blue, simply said Blue. Emiliano birth and Tuscan by adoption, lives the early 90s in Pontremoli, in Lunigiana, which he renamed Lunisiana since it has the typical characteristics of American Louisiana, land to which the musician has always been very close. You Inter sympathizer and Reggiana, team in which he played as a goalkeeper in the category "chicks" and of which he became Honorary President from October 2013 . On the occasion of the Italian political elections of 2008 said he did not vote for twenty years and that he would not even on that occasion, admitted not identify with neither side, was not interested in politics and had voted only or twice in his life

Zucchero & Paul Young - Senza una donna (Without a woman)

Senza una donna / I can not stand the most is a single of the singer Zucchero, extracted in 1987 from the album Blue's. In the same year it was published, prior to this, another single, With your hands (remix) / Do not stand you anymore (remix), in which was contained a remix of the song Do not stand you anymore.

The English edition of Without a woman, a duet with Paul Young, published in 1991, is the only song of an Italian singer to have reached the summit of the prestigious European Hot 100 Singles, in addition to Blue (Da Ba Dee) of Eiffel 65, 1965 to present.

As recounted in the autobiography The Sunday Sound - The novel of my life, both passages refer to the ex-wife of Sugar, Angela daughters. In the first - without a woman (not initially foreseen in Blue's - Sugar you imagine a life without his partner, although at the time was still married to his wife. The song, whose music was composed spontaneously, has a tormented text, written in the old home of Avenza, where the bluesman would retire for the creation of the albums from that period. it was not stand you anymore, however, conceived in a fit of rage against his wife, and driving the car.

Senza una donna (Without A Woman)
In 1987, during the mixing of the album Blue's, Zucchero Paul Young met at Olympic Studios in London. The result was the collaboration for the engraving of the version of Senza una donna (Without a woman), with text partially translated in English: only the chorus, by the will of Fornaciari, he remained in Italian. The single, then released in 1991, reached the top position on the charts for two weeks in Sweden and Norway for four weeks, the second in France, Switzerland and the Netherlands and the eighth in Austria. The song was later included in the soundtrack of the movie French Kiss.

Worldwide has sold over 700,000 copies, making it the only song of an Italian singer to reach the top of the prestigious European Hot 100 Singles, in addition to Blue (Da Ba Dee) of Eiffel 65, 1965 to present. Thanks to this, it is probably the song of the most successful sugar in the international arena.

Donne - Zucchero
Donne - Zucchero

Donne is the song on the A side, written by Alberto Salerno for the lyrics and by Zucchero for the music. The piece, presented at the Sanremo Festival in 1985, ranks the penultimate place, but obtains considerable radio success; the membership album, however, does not get a positive sales response. In 1994 the song was re-used by Zucchero himself in Spanish, with a text by Fito Paez and a new title: Chicas. The song came third in the standings in Mexico. In 1995 the song regained a certain popularity thanks to a cover performed a cappella by Neri per Caso. Despite this popularity, the song was gradually abandoned in the live performances of the singer because, as he himself told, he no longer recognizes the lightness of the text. It was re-released in acoustic version only recently, during one of the twenty-two dates of the Black Cat World Tour at the Verona Arena.
