Homo Sapiens is an Italian musical group of the seventies.

The band was formed in 1966. Originally, at the time of their first public outings, where they always have a certain success, the name of the group is the Tarli. In 1971, their name changed to Homo Sapiens. The guitarist is Rodolfo Maltese, later a member of the Banco del Mutuo Soccorso. At that time they often collaborated with Herbert Pagani. In 1972, the training stabilized with the entry of Maurizio Nuti.

In 1974 they took part in A disco for the summer with Oh Mary Lou, and at the same event they came back with greater success in the following edition with Tornerai tornerò, semifinalist in the evenings of Saint Vincent.

In 1977 they took part in the Sanremo Festival with the song Bella da morire: with this song they will pass to history winning that Festival. In this edition, the Homo Sapiens had practically replaced Mal, who was supposed to perform with the same piece; this does not happen because of the Fury song that involved him in a series of professional engagements.

Among their other successes we also remember Pecos Bill and A summer ago.

Dissolved in 1982 following the crisis of Italian discography, they got together again in 1990 without Robustiano "Roby" Pellegrini replaced by two keyboards (including Corrado Lentinello) who played until 2000 with the group. In any case, even in the eighties occasionally publish unpublished pieces as a purely discographic project.

Starting from 2000 in the live performances the formula "30 years in one evening" is proposed in which the complex traces the last thirty years of Italian and foreign music, besides of course its successes.

In 2005 they had to take part in the Sanremo Festival in the "Classic" category, but they were not admitted to the last dive; that excluded song is currently being proposed by Homo Sapiens on live evenings.

In 2006 the complex, still very active in the live concert circuit, created the "Music-Park" in Bientina (PI) in Tuscany, an authentic music park.

On 6 February 2009 they participated in the contest in Ciak ... si si !, Raiuno's musical program, in which they proposed a video, created for the occasion, of their famous song Bella da morire.

In 2012 he released their new single: Incancellabile (Nuti / Masi).

In 2017 the Homo Sapiens celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Sanremo Festival Victory with the song Bella da morire and the United Kingdom Music Editions publish a CD containing all their greatest hits. Label Pinky Records and production by Edoardo Rinaldi, Cristina Donasoldi and United Kingdom Musical Editions Altopascio (Lucca).

On May 4, 2018, thanks to a production of Marco Colavecchio, supported by Pasquale Mammaro, a new version of "Bella da morire" was released, sung by Alex Baris, together with the Homo Sapiens. The piece, which appears as a possible summer catchphrase, was recorded between Pisa in the "Cantuccio studio" and Cassino in the Colavecchio studio.
