Cora is a German pop duo. It was founded at the beginning of the 1980s by the two musicians Cornelia von dem Bottlenberg (* 1951) and Svetlana von Bottlenberg (born Minkow) (* 1951 in Bulgaria ) at the climax of the New Deutsche Welle in Berlin .

Already as young girls, Cora and Swetlana tried independently to gain a foothold in the German Schlagergeschäft. Cora, along with her brother Frank von Bottlenberg , both family members of the noble gentlemen of Bottlenberg , published several singles at the end of the 1960s as a duo Cora & Frank . Also from Swetlana appeared in this time singles.

In the 1970s, the two musicians had become friends with the recordings of singles. He belonged to me and Marleen of Marianne Rosenberg . Up until the early 1980s, Cora and Swetlana were on the road with different bands and projects across Europe at discotheques and clubs to entertain the audience with a mixture of singing and dancing. One of the bands called Ladygirls . The trio ( Agnes Radić completed the group) released a single and an album titled The golden 70s .

At the beginning of the 1980s the artists worked for the first time as songwriters for other artists. At the same time two releases were produced with the duo Conny & Jean (1983: The feeling for one another living and 1985: you are there ). With you , they took part in the Eurovision Song Contest as a background singers in 1985, Conny & Jean took the eleventh and therefore penultimate place.

With the help of Frank Farian , the unsuccessful album Liebeskummer was released in 1983 . Until in the evening at the disco , Cora gave her all the titles on this LP her voice. In 1984 Cora wrote for Juliane Werding the song Amsterdam (Love has totally failed) , Werding declined it. Farian then produced the song together with Cora. Amsterdam was the first single publication on which Svetlana was responsible for singing. The title became a hit in the airplay charts. The English-language version of the song, which was released just under a year later, reached the French charts and was among the top 20 for four months.

In 1990, Cora was named Best Newcomer of the Year by Golden Europe for the single In the Name of Love from the Saarland Broadcasting Corporation . Afterwards it became quieter around the band. 1992 the provisional last single appeared.

The two musicians, now living together in life partnership (Svetlana took the name of Cora) moved to Golm to run a hotel restaurant.

At the end of 2003 Cora made a comeback . First they released a remix of their hit Amsterdam  and an album of their greatest successes. At the end of 2004 an album with new material appeared. In the years 2007 and 2008, they released compilations with their greatest hits and some new songs from which you belonged to me as a single and In the Name of Love in a remix version.
