"Nice Work If You Can Get It" is a popular song.

The music was written by George Gershwin, the lyrics by Ira Gershwin. It was one of nine songs George Gershwin wrote for the movie A Damsel in Distress, in which it was performed by Fred Astaire with backing vocals provided by The Stafford Sisters. The song was published in 1937.

Early chart versions were by Shep Fields, Teddy Wilson with Billie Holiday, Fred Astaire, Maxine Sullivan and The Andrews Sisters.

In the 1951 film An American in Paris, the song is performed by Georges Guétary.

A version of this song was used during the opening credits of the 1995 to 1998 CBS sitcom Cybill, starring Cybill Shepherd, who performed the song herself.

The song was included in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Crazy for You and lent its name to the musical Nice Work If You Can Get It.

"Tangerine" is a popular song. The music was written by Victor Schertzinger, the lyrics by Johnny Mercer. The song was published in 1941 and soon became a jazz standard.

It was introduced to a broad audience in the 1942 movie, The Fleet's In, produced by Paramount Pictures, directed by Schertzinger just before his death, and starring Dorothy Lamour, William Holden, Eddie Bracken, singer Cass Daley, and Betty Hutton in her feature film debut.

The song portrays a fictitious South American woman with universally recognized allure: "When she dances by, / Señoritas stare / And caballeros sigh."[1] As one of Mercer's biographers explained the initial popularity: "Latin America, the one part of the world not engulfed in World War II, became a favorite topic for songs and films for Americans who wanted momentarily to forget about the conflagration."

"Garota de Ipanema" ("The Girl from Ipanema") is a Brazilian bossa nova jazz song. It was a worldwide hit in the mid-1960s and won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1965. It was written in 1962, with music by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Portuguese lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes. English lyrics were written later by Norman Gimbel.

The first commercial recording was in 1962, by Pery Ribeiro. The 1964 single featuring Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz became an international hit. This had been shortened from the version on the album Getz/Gilberto (recorded in March 1963, released March 1964) which had also included the Portuguese lyrics sung by João Gilberto. In the US, the single peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, and went to number one for two weeks on the Easy Listening chart.  Overseas it peaked at number 29 in the United Kingdom, and charted highly throughout the world.

"How About You?" is a popular song composed by Burton Lane, with lyrics by Ralph Freed. (1941 in music) It was introduced in the 1941 film Babes on Broadway by Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney.

The lyrics of the song are often changed depending on the recording artist. In its original form it is a humorous romantic duet, though rarely has it been recorded that way. Certain lyrics, especially those with topical references, are often changed based on the time of the performance's release. For example, the line "Franklin Roosevelt's looks give me a thrill" was changed to "James Durante's looks" in a 1950s recording by Sinatra, though he did sing it in its original form with Dorsey back in the 1940s.

Bob Crosby, Mary Livingstone and Jack Benny sang the song as a novelty trio on a 1955 episode of Benny's TV show.

Lucille Ball and Van Johnson sang and danced to this song on an episode of I Love Lucy.

"Three Coins in the Fountain" is a popular song which received the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1955.

The melody was written by Jule Styne, the lyrics by Sammy Cahn.  It was written for the romance film, Three Coins in the Fountain and refers to the act of throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain in Rome while making a wish. Each of the film's three stars performs this act.

Cahn and Jule Styne were asked to write the song to fit the movie, but were unable to either see the film or read the script. They completed the song in an hour and had produced a demonstration record with Frank Sinatra by the following day. The song was subsequently used in the film soundtrack, but in the rush 20th Century Fox neglected to sign a contract with the composers, allowing them to claim complete rights over the royalties.  The song was subsequently recorded by The Four Aces (backed by the Jack Pleis Orchestra), who had a number-one hit on the U.S. Billboard pop chart in 1954, while the Sinatra recording topped the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in September and October that year.

A recording by Dinah Shore with orchestra conducted by Harry Geller was made at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, California, on March 24, 1954. It was released by RCA Victor Records as catalog number 20-5755 (in USA)  and by EMI on the His Master's Voice label as catalog number B 10730. Harry James recorded a version on his 1955 album Jukebox Jamboree (Columbia CL-615).

The music was written by Walter Donaldson and the lyrics by Gus Kahn. It was introduced by Margaret Young and successful recordings in 1925 were by Ace Brigode; Gene Austin; Blossom Seeley; Ben Bernie; and Coon-Sanders Original Nighthawk Orchestra (vocal by Carleton Coon).  Eddie Cantor recorded the song in 1930. It was later a hit for Ricky Nelson in 1960 and Frank Sinatra in the 1960s. The song has become a standard that has been recorded by over 100 artists in genres from jazz to rock, marimba and country. Bing Crosby recorded the song in 1956  for use on his radio show and it was subsequently included in the box set The Bing Crosby CBS Radio Recordings (1954-56) issued by Mosaic Records (catalog MD7-245) in 2009.

Opening line of the chorus: "Yes sir, that's my ba - by, no sir, don't mean may - be, Yes sir, that's my ba - by now...."

According to one source, the song was written when Donaldson and Kahn were visiting Eddie Cantor. Cantor's daughter Marjorie brought out one of her favorite toys, a walking mechanical pig. She wound it up and it started walking in rhythm while two notes kept coming from the little creature. Kahn was inspired and started working lyrics to these notes in rhythm with the pig, coming up with the title and opening line of the chorus in short order.

It became popular in the first half of the 20th century and typified the Roaring Twenties. Like "Happy Days Are Here Again" (1929), it became a Tin Pan Alley standard. They Didn't Believe Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL3Y9pcQ10U

"They Didn't Believe Me" is a song with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Herbert Reynolds.

First introduced in the 1914 musical The Girl from Utah it was one of five numbers added to the show by Kern and Reynolds for its Broadway debut at the Knickerbocker Theatre on August 14, 1914. The show had originated in Britain, but impresario Charles Frohman had felt it needed additional material to enliven its U.S. run. It became Kern's first major song success.

The song, with four beats to a bar, departed from the customary waltz-rhythms of European influence and fitted the new American passion for modern dances such as the fox-trot. Kern was also able to use elements of American styles, such as ragtime, as well as syncopation, in his lively dance tunes.

The song is also remarkable in its use of 'everyday' language in a love song. Theatre historian John Kenrick writes that, until this point, the majority of love songs had relied on flowery vocabulary to express romantic sentiments. The song put Kern in great demand on Broadway and established a pattern for musical comedy love songs that lasted through the 1960s.

"They Say It's Wonderful" is a popular song written by Irving Berlin for the musical Annie Get Your Gun (1946), where it was introduced by Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton. A film version in 1950 again featured the song when it was performed by Howard Keel and Betty Hutton.
