Tina Turner (born Anna Mae Bullock; November 26, 1939), is a recording artist, dancer, actress and author, whose career has spanned more than half a century, earning her widespread recognition and numerous awards. Born and raised in the Southeastern United States, Turner obtained Swiss citizenship in 2013 and relinquished her American citizenship.

She began her musical career in the mid-1950s as a featured singer with Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm, first recording in 1958 under the name "Little Ann."  Her introduction to the public as Tina Turner began in 1960 as a member of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue.  Success followed with a string of notable hits credited to the duo, including "A Fool in Love",[4] "River Deep – Mountain High" (1966), "Proud Mary" (1971) and "Nutbush City Limits" (1973), a song which she herself wrote. In her autobiography, I, Tina, she revealed several instances of severe domestic abuse against her by Ike Turner prior to their 1976 split and subsequent 1978 divorce. Raised as a Baptist, she encountered faith with Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism in 1971, crediting the spiritual chant of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, which Turner claims helped her to endure during difficult times.

After her divorce from Ike Turner, she rebuilt her career through live performances. In the early 1980s, she launched a major comeback with another string of hits, starting in 1983 with the single "Let's Stay Together" followed by the 1984 release of her fifth solo album Private Dancer which became a worldwide success. "What's Love Got to Do with It", the lead single won three Grammy Awards including Record of the Year.

Her solo success continued with the multi platinum albums Break Every Rule and Foreign Affair and with singles such as "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)", "The Best" and "GoldenEye" for the James Bond film of the same name. "What's Love Got to Do with It" was later used as the title of a loosely based biographical film adapted from her autobiography. In addition to her musical career, Turner has also experienced success in films, including the role of Acid Queen in the 1975 rock musical Tommy, a starring role alongside Mel Gibson in the 1985 action film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and a cameo role in the 1993 film Last Action Hero.

One of the world's best-selling music artists of all time, she has also been referred to as The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll. Turner has been termed the most successful female Rock 'n' Roll artist,  receiving eleven Grammy Awards, including eight competitive awards and three Grammy Hall of Fame awards. Turner has also sold more concert tickets than any other solo performer in history.

Her combined album and single sales total approximately 180 million copies worldwide,  making her one of the biggest selling females in music history.  She is noted for her energetic stage presence,  powerful vocals, and career longevity.  In 2008, Turner returned from semi-retirement to embark on her Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour.  Turner's tour became one of the highest selling ticketed shows of 2008–09.  Rolling Stone ranked her no. 63 on their 100 greatest artists of all time. In 1991, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tina Turner announced in December 2016 that she has been working on "Tina", a new musical based on her story, in collaboration with Phyllida Lloyd and Stage Entertainment

"Open Arms" is a song by American recording artist Tina Turner.

It was written by Colette van Sertima, Ben Barson and former Kane Gang member Martin Brammer and produced by Jimmy Hogarth for her compilation album All the Best (2004). The track features backing vocals from KT Tunstall and Estelle.

Released as the album's lead single towards the end of 2004, it became a top 40 success on most of the charts it appeared on, reaching the top five in Belgium and Hungary and the top 30 in Italy and the United Kingdom. In the US, "Open Arms" peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.

Nutbush City Limits" is a semi-autobiographical song written and originally performed by Tina Turner in which she commemorates her rural hometown of Nutbush, Tennessee.

Released June 1973, shortly before her separation from then-husband and musical partner Ike Turner, "Nutbush City Limits" was the last hit single the duo would produce together. In the years since, "Nutbush City Limits" has been covered by a number of other artists—most notably Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band—and Tina Turner herself has re-recorded several different versions of the song.

As an unincorporated rural community, Nutbush does not officially have "city limits"; rather, its boundaries are described by "Nutbush—Unincorporated" signs posted on the local highway.

Steamy Windows" is a song by Tina Turner. It was included on Turner's 1989 Foreign Affair album and released as the album's second single in November 1989, and third single in the United Kingdom and Ireland in February 1990. Written by Tony Joe White and produced by Dan Hartman, is known for its high energy and strong vocal performance. Released as the album's third single, it became a top ten hit in Belgium and Ireland, while reaching the top forty on the majority of all charts it appeared on.
The single included a dance version of the track co-produced and remixed by Justin Strauss and Murray Elias and it was also issued as a separate remix single in certain territories. It was covered two years later by country artist John Anderson for his album Seminole Wind as well as country artist Kenny Chesney. Turner performed the song as the opening number during her 1990, 1993 and 2008/2009 concert tours.

"I Can't Stand the Rain" is a song originally recorded by Ann Peebles in 1973, and written by Peebles, Don Bryant, and Bernard "Bernie" Miller. Other hit versions were later recorded by Eruption and Tina Turner.

When The Heartache Is Over" is a song by American recording artist Tina Turner. Written by Graham Stack and John Reid for her album Twenty Four Seven (1999), it was released as the album's leading single in mid-to late 1999.

It was a considerable hit both on the pop and dance charts, reaching the top ten in Finland and the United Kingdom, while peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart in the U.S. The CD singles released included remixes of "When The Heartache Is Over" by among others the Metro team, 7th District Inc. and Hex Hector. Certain European CD singles also included two live recordings from Turner's 1996 Wildest Dreams Tour, "I Can't Stand the Rain" and "On Silent Wings".

The music video, which was filmed by British director Paul Boyd, features Turner dancing on a giant "T" with other dancers around her on the ground. The video was choreographed by Tina Landon. The background is black with a big screen that has flashing colours on it.

Proud Mary is the title of a rock song, that of John Fogerty was written. The piece in the 1969 version of the Californian band became famous Creedence Clearwater Revival , whose co-founder was Fogerty. The song deals with the Mississippi River and the city of New Orleans ; at the Proud Mary is a paddle steamer .

"What's Love Got to Do with It" is a song recorded by the American singer Tina Turner, released in 1984. It was taken from her fifth solo album, Private Dancer and became Turner's most successful single.

Although Turner had already scored a UK Top 10 and US Top 30 hit some months earlier with her rendition of "Let's Stay Together", "What's Love Got to Do with It" gave Turner her first and only US number one. The song ranked #309 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". It also ranked #38 on the Songs of the Century list. It was the second-biggest single of 1984 in the US and the 17th-biggest in the United Kingdom. In 1993, the song's title was used as the title for the biographical film about Turner's life.

In 2012, "What's Love Got to Do with It" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame  giving Turner her third Grammy Hall of Fame Award and her eleventh Grammy Award.
