Fred Buscaglione , of his real name Ferdinando Buscaglione (born on 23 November 1921 In Turin and died on February 3 , 1960 (Aged 38) in Rome ) is a singer-songwriter and Italian actor .

Ferdinando Buscaglione was born in Turin on November 23, 1921. He was the son of a house painter and a house keeper at the age of 11, and was enrolled by his parents at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin. During his teenage years, he played in clubs in Turin, singing jazz and playing double bass and violin. During the Second World War he was imprisoned in an American internment camp in Sardinia, but thanks to his talent he joined the Allied radio orchestra in Cagliari, which enabled him to continue making music and experimenting with new Sounds and rhythms coming from the United States at a time when most of the foreign music had been officially banned by the Italian fascist regime .

After the war, Buscaglione returned to Turin and resumed his work as a musician for several different groups before forming his own: the Asternovas .

During a tour in Switzerland in 1949, he met Fatima Robin, a Moroccan-born circus performer who became his wife. When the couple appears publicly, it seems that it is inspired by the gangsters Clark Gable and Mickey Spillane . With his friend Leo Chiosso , Buscaglione wrote the "hits" that made him famous on a national scale: Che bambola ("What a doll!"); Teresa non sparare ("Therese, do not shoot!"); Eri piccola così ("You were small like that"); Guarda che luna ("Watch this moon!"); Love in Portofino  ; Porfirio Villarosa  ;

In order to escape the routine of nightclubs and theaters, Buscaglione began recording his songs in 1955. His first LP, including the songs Che bambola and Giacomino , sold more than 1,000,000 copies without any promotion . In the late 1950s , Buscaglione was one of the most popular artists in Italy. He could be seen and heard everywhere: on radio, in movies, on television, in commercials.

In full glory, he died at the age of 38 in a car accident. At the dawn of February 3, 1960, his Ford Thunderbird pink collided with a truck in Rome, near the US Embassy.
