Philip David Charles "Phil" Collins LVO (born 30 January 1951) is an English singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, record producer and actor. He is best known as the drummer and lead singer in the rock band Genesis and as a solo artist. Between 1983 and 1990, Collins scored three UK and seven US number-one singles in his solo career. When his work with Genesis, his work with other artists, as well as his solo career is totalled, Collins had more US Top 40 singles than any other artist during the 1980s.  His most successful singles from the period include "In the Air Tonight", "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)", "One More Night", "Sussudio" and "Another Day in Paradise".

Born and raised in West London, Collins played drums from the age of five and completed drama school training, which secured him various roles as a child actor. He then pursued a music career, joining Genesis in 1970 as their drummer and becoming lead singer in 1975 following the departure of Peter Gabriel. Collins began a solo career in the 1980s, initially inspired by his marital breakdown and love of soul music, releasing a series of successful albums, including Face Value (1981), No Jacket Required (1985), and ...But Seriously (1989). Collins became "one of the most successful pop and adult contemporary singers of the '80s and beyond"  He also became known for a distinctive gated reverb drum sound on many of his recordings. After leaving Genesis in 1996, Collins pursued various solo projects before a return in 2007 for the Turn It On Again Tour. In 2011, he retired to focus on his family life,  but continued to write songs.  He announced his return to the music industry in 2015. He will perform live for the first time in 10 years with a European tour in July 2017, including a five night residency at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and his biggest ever solo show in Hyde Park, London.

Collins' discography includes eight studio albums that have sold 33.5 million certified units in the US and an estimated 150 million worldwide, making him one of the world's best-selling artists. He is one of three recording artists, along with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, who have sold over 100 million records worldwide both as solo artists and separately as principal members of a band.

He has won seven Grammy Awards, six Brit Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, an Academy Award, and a Disney Legend Award.  In 1999, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010, the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2012, and the Classic Drummer Hall of Fame in 2013.  Despite his commercial success and his status as a respected and influential drummer, music critics are divided in their opinion of his work and he has publicly received both criticism and praise from other prominent music artists.

"Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" (also titled "Against All Odds") is a song by English drummer, singer and songwriter Phil Collins. It was recorded for the soundtrack to the 1984 film of the same name. It is a power ballad in which its protagonist implores an ex-lover to "take a look at me now", knowing that reconciliation is "against all odds" while considering it worth trying. The single reached number two in the United Kingdom, while it peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, the first of seven US number ones for Collins in his solo career.

The song has been covered by several singers, some versions of which have been successful in both the US and UK markets. The song has twice reached number one in the UK singles chart: the pairing of Mariah Carey and boyband Westlife, in September 2000,  and then again by Steve Brookstein, the first winner of The X Factor, in January 2005.

"Another Day in Paradise" is a song recorded by English singer-songwriter Phil Collins. Produced by Collins along with Hugh Padgham, it was released as the first single from his number-one album ...But Seriously (1989). As with his song for Genesis, "Man on the Corner", the track has as its subject the problem of homelessness;  as such, the song was a substantial departure from the dance-pop music of his previous album, No Jacket Required (1985).

Collins sings the song from a third-person perspective, as he observes a man crossing the street to ignore a homeless woman, and he implores listeners not to turn a blind eye to homelessness because, by drawing a religious allusion, "it's just another day for you and me in paradise". Collins also appeals directly to God by singing: "Oh Lord, is there nothing more anybody can do? Oh Lord, there must be something you can say?"

The song was Collins' seventh and final Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, and the first number-one single of the 1990s. It was also a worldwide success, eventually becoming one of the most successful songs of his solo career. It won Collins and Padgham the Grammy Award for Record of the Year at the 1991 awards ceremony, while it was also nominated for Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male and Best Music Video, Short Form. "Another Day in Paradise" also won an award for Best British Single at the 1990 BRIT Awards. Despite the awards gained following its release, the song also generated controversy over its subject matter and has received a largely negative reaction from music critics.

Collins and David Crosby's live performance of the song at the 1991 Grammy Awards was released on the 1994 album Grammy's Greatest Moments Volume I. In 2009, Collins's version was listed at 86th on Billboard's Greatest Songs of All Time.  "Another Day in Paradise" has since been covered by several artists, including Brandy, her brother Ray J, Jam Tronik, Axxis, Novecento, and Hank Marvin.

"Do You Remember?" is a single performed by Phil Collins released in 1990 from his album ...But Seriously. The song had minor success in European countries, but went to number one in both Canadian and the U.S Adult Contemporary chart; it also peaked at number two on the U.S. Hot 100 Airplay and number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart that same year.

A live performance of the song also appears on the Serious Hits... Live! album. The live version was released as a single in the United Kingdom, while it was not released as a single in the United States. The single reached #57 on the UK Singles Chart.

The song was written by Collins and produced by Collins and Hugh Padgham. Singer-songwriter Stephen Bishop is a backing vocalist on the track. The song's lyrics are from the perspective of a man whose relationship is failing, due to his lover's neglect. An instrumental cover performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was released later. It was extremely popular in Bulgaria during the early 1990s, due to a then-famous teenage TV program using it while showing its closing credits.

"Easy Lover" is a hit song performed by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins and written by Bailey, Collins and Nathan East. The song appeared on Bailey's solo album Chinese Wall. Collins has performed the song in his live concerts and it appears on his 1990 album Serious Hits... Live!, as well as his 1998 compilation album, ...Hits.

The song was a No. 1 hit in several countries worldwide, including Canada, the Netherlands, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. In the U.S. it reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 2 February 1985, kept out of the top spot for two weeks by "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner. In the UK Singles Chart it reached No. 1, staying there for four weeks.  The single was certified gold in the UK.  The single sold over a million copies in the U.S. and was certified gold, as the RIAA requirement for a platinum single disc was not lowered to 1 million units until 1989. In addition, "Easy Lover" has been certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of over 400,000 in the UK and platinum in Canada by Music Canada.

"Easy Lover" won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Overall Performance in a Video in 1985 and was Grammy nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals in 1986.

The lighthearted video for the song was filmed in London, England and is a music video about the making of a music video.

Electric Six covered the song on their cover album Mimicry and Memories (2015).

"In the Air Tonight" is the debut single by English singer-songwriter/drummer Phil Collins. It was released as the lead single from Collins' debut solo album, Face Value, in January 1981.

Collins co-produced the single with Hugh Padgham, who became a frequent collaborator in the following years. The song was an instant hit, quickly climbing to No. 2 on the UK Singles chart. It was also an international hit, peaking at No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and No. 1 in the Netherlands. It was later certified Gold by the RIAA, representing 500,000 copies sold.

The song's music video, directed by Stuart Orme, received heavy play on MTV when the new cable music video channel launched in August 1981. It remains one of Collins' best-known hits and is especially famous for his drum break towards the end, which has been described as "the sleekest, most melodramatic drum break in history".

"In Too Deep" is the fourth track on the 1986 Genesis album Invisible Touch. It was released as the second single from the LP in the UK and the fourth single in the U.S. The single was a huge success in America during the summer of 1987; it reached the number three spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the number one spot on the Adult Contemporary chart.

The song is only performed live during the 1986 North American legs during the Genesis 1986/1987 Invisible Touch world tour. A 1987 performance of the song was included on the 1992 live album The Shorts.

"In Too Deep" is featured in the 2000 American crime/thriller American Psycho, as well as in the 1986 British neo-noir film Mona Lisa; for the latter the song won the "Most Performed Song from a Film" award at the BMI Film & TV Awards in 1988.

"It's in Your Eyes" is a single performed by Phil Collins and released in 1996 as the second single from his album Dance into the Light.

A Beatles-esque melody, the song only reached #30 UK Singles Chart and fared worse on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, reaching #77. However, the song did reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.

For promotional live performances of the song, Collins played the lead guitar instead of Daryl Stuermer. The video showed Collins in an apartment block, playing the guitar while watching people pass by through their flats.

"One More Night" is the first single in the United States and second in the United Kingdom from Phil Collins' third album, the Diamond-certified No Jacket Required. "One More Night" was Phil Collins' second U.S. No. 1 single, following "Against All Odds", and was his fourth single to reach the top ten in the UK, peaking at No. 4 on the singles chart. The single was certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry. It was also his first No. 1 on the U.S. Adult contemporary chart.

The soft rock ballad remained for two weeks at the top in the U.S. in early 1985, until it was surpassed by "We Are the World" on 13 April 1985. It has also been released as the eleventh track on the 1998 compilation album, Hits, as well as the third track on the 2004 compilation album, Love Songs: A Compilation... Old and New.

"Two Hearts" is a song by Phil Collins. The song reached No. 1 in the United States and Canada in February 1989.

It was composed by Lamont Dozier (of Motown's Holland-Dozier-Holland), with lyrics by Collins, both of whom also produced this song for the 1988 crime comedy film Buster. Both promo-singles of the film, "Two Hearts" and "A Groovy Kind Of Love", topped the US charts.

It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song alongside the Carly Simon song "Let the River Run" from Working Girl (with the latter having beaten the former for the Academy Award for Best Original Song) and the Grammy Award for Best Song Written Specifically for a Motion Picture or Television in 1989.

Two music videos were made, both directed by Jim Yukich: the first one similar to Collins' 1982 video "You Can't Hurry Love" featuring Collins as all four members in a band (named "The Four Pound Notes"), and the other featuring him in a wrestling match against the Ultimate Warrior, which was featured on the Jim Yukich-directed Seriously.. Phil Collins CBS TV special (aired 8 September 1990). The special can be found on the 2004 First Final Farewell Tour DVD.

The song topped the US Hot 100 for two weeks, the US adult contemporary chart for five weeks, and also reached No. 6 on the UK Singles Chart. It opened the radio station BBC Hereford and Worcester, appropriate in that the station was based in two different places.

The B-side features Anne Dudley and the London Film Orchestra performing "The Robbery", also on the Buster soundtrack.

The most notable cover of the song was released in late 1982 as a single by Phil Collins from his second solo album, Hello, I Must Be Going! Collins's version reached number-one on the UK Singles Chart (becoming his first number-one solo hit in the UK Singles Chart, and peaking two positions higher than the original song did in that country), and reached number 10 in the United States. The single was certified gold in the UK.

Although Collins had previously done covers as album tracks (of Genesis's "Behind the Lines" and The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows" on Face Value), "You Can't Hurry Love" was the first cover he released as a single. Collins explained:

The idea of doing 'Can't Hurry Love' was to see if Hugh Padgham and I could duplicate that Sixties sound. It's very difficult today because most recording facilities are so much more sophisticated than they were back then. It's therefore hard to make the drums sound as rough as they did on the original. That's what we were going after, a remake, not an interpretation, but a remake.

Collins's version was the first track on the very first Now That's What I Call Music compilation CD. On the second repeat of the chorus, he replaces the line "How much more can I take?" with "How much more must I take?", and likewise exchanges the words, "...trust in the good Lord..." to "...trust in a good time...".

"You'll Be in My Heart" is a song by Phil Collins, from the 1999 Disney animated feature Tarzan.  It appeared on Tarzan: An Original Walt Disney Records Soundtrack as well as various other Disney compilations. A version of the single performed by Glenn Close also appears on the soundtrack.

A demo version with Collins playing piano and singing is featured as a bonus on the 2-DVD Special Edition of Tarzan, along with "I Will Follow", "Celebration", "6/8 Demo" and "Rhythm Piece" which became "Strangers Like Me", "Son of Man" and "Trashin' the Camp". "6/8 Demo" was not featured in the movie.

The music video for the song was directed by Kevin Godley.

"A Groovy Kind of Love" is a pop song written by Toni Wine and Carole Bayer Sager and published by the Screen Gems music publishing company. It is heavily based on the Rondo movement of Sonatina in G major, op. 36 no. 5,[1][2] by Muzio Clementi. The song was released first by Diane & Annita in 1965, and several covers have since appeared on worldwide music charts.

The song title was an early use of the then-new slang word "groovy". Wine, who was 17 years old when she wrote the song, said, "Carole came up with "Groovy kinda... groovy kinda... groovy..." and we're all just saying, 'Kinda groovy, kinda groovy, kinda...' and I don't exactly know who came up with "Love", but it was 'Groovy kind of love'. And we did it.

We wrote it in 20 minutes. It was amazing. Just flew out of our mouths, and at the piano, it was a real quick and easy song to write."

The song was recorded and covered by other bands and artists such as The Turtles and Phil Collins.

Phil Collins recorded a new version of "A Groovy Kind of Love" in 1988. He had originally suggested the song as a good one for collaborator Stephen Bishop to record, with Collins producing. Collins originally recorded his demo version as a suggestion for the film Buster, then found out later that the demo was actually used in the film.

He later decided to record it himself when he took the starring role in the film, which had a 1960s setting. The song was originally released on Buster: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. A live version appeared on his Serious Hits... Live! album.

Unlike the Mindbenders' version, which was an upbeat guitar-based pop song, Collins's version was a slow ballad with a prominent keyboard and strings. This version hit No. 1 on both the U.S. and UK charts, and remains Collins' only single to top the charts in both countries; it was his last No. 1 single in the UK.

The single was certified silver in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry. It also reached No. 1 on the U.S. Adult Contemporary chart. The song earned Collins a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male in 1989.
