Heinz Hoppe was one of the most famous and mostly active tenors of his time. He grew up in the construction company Middendorf in the Münsterland. In the course of the Second World War, he fought on the eastern front and returned to his homeland only in 1948 from Soviet captivity. He wanted to become an early singer.

He gave his singing debut in 1953 as Xerxes in George Frideric Handel's opera of the same name to the Städtische Bühnen Münster , where he soon made a furore with his tenor voice with baritone color. In 1955, he became a member of the ensemble of the Hamburg State Opera . Hoppe gave guest performances in Frankfurt and Munich and soon became a celebrated star at the biggest opera houses in the world. He sang in Paris, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Scala in Milan, Madrid, Lisbon and many other places. Later, concerts and oratorios followed at all the major performance venues in Europe.

In 1962, the Hamburg Senate appointed him a "Kammersänger" in view of his artistic achievements. He was thus one of the youngest singers of Germany to be able to enjoy this title. The State College of Music in Heidelberg-Mannheim appointed him a professor for Sologesang and the director of the opera school. In addition to the classical opera-house with a preference for Mozart- parts, he also mastered operetta and song-song. Hoppe performed together with the pianist Sebastian Peschko as a song interpreter .

In addition, Hoppe participated in numerous operatic and operetta recordings as well as in over 200 radio and record recordings. His operetta recordings were produced mainly by NDR Hamburg and Hanover; Later Hoppe also collaborated with the conductor Franz Marszalek , who joined him with the soprano Ingeborg Hallstein at Polydor . In several editions of Heinz Schenk's entertainment show Zum Blauen Bock , Hoppe appeared as a regular guest.
On 7 April 1993 he succumbed to the consequences of an operation in a clinic in Mannheim.
