Gheorghe Zamfir, known only as Zamfir (Găeşti, April 6, 1941), is a flutist and Romanian composer, virtuoso of the pan flute specialist.

Gheorghe Zamfir began playing, completely self-taught, the traditional flute. He continued his training at the Academy of where he was a pupil Fanica Bucharest Music Luca and later, in 1968, at the conservatory in Bucharest, without achieving any degree of study.

He became famous at the international public in the sixties when it was discovered the Swiss ethnomusicologist Marcel Cellier, during that period, is deeply interested in the Romanian folk music, and thanks to a valuable friendly interaction with the young instrumentalist who at that time was always more interested by a deep understanding for the ethnic nature of the family of flutes tools, Zamfir decided to dedicate himself to the discovery and use of solo instruments flautistici less known but more ancient as panpipes, in their different sizes. From that moment on, his fame grew and grew.

His son Emmanuel Teodor, who lives in Canada, is a musician and percussionist.



James Last, stage name of Hans Last (Bremen, April 17, 1929 - Palm Beach, June 9, 2015), was a musician, composer, conductor and bandleader German.

Author of numerous music for the film, was also arranger and record producer. Often he performed in duo - in disc and in concert - with pianist Richard Clayderman.

His repertoire - much of which runs to guide the James Last Orchestra - includes both standard and evergreens such as La Cucaracha, Moon River, Jezebel, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Singin 'in the Rain, as tracks of pop, folk (The House of the Rising Sun) and jazz as well as classical compositions (such as Carmina Burana by Carl Orff or Romanza n. 2 op. 50 in F major by Ludwig van Beethoven) arranged according to modern sounds crossover style or classical crossover.

It has had an extensive record production and is one of the authors and musicians whose records were among those most sold (ie millions of copies internationally).

In 1976, Billboard magazine awarded him the Star of the Year Award and in 1994 received recognition as the Echo Award.

His name is linked to a record - included in the album In Concert (1971) - the second movement of the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra no. 21 K 467 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, known as Theme from "Elvira Madigan".

The song Einsamer Hirte by Gheorghe Zamfir comes in fifth place in the Netherlands and in seventh in Flanders in Belgium in 1979 and Biscaya in sixth position in the Netherlands and in third in Flanders in 1982.

He was married and father of a child and lived divides between Florida and Germany.

Last he started producing records around 1963. Since then and throughout the early seventies has published a series of nine albums called Classics Up To Date, containing classical melodies arranged for orchestra and with use of violins enriched by a sustained rhythm and mouth closed choirs. The sales success of these discs has made him one of the most popular personalities of international music (has sold over 100 million records with fifty albums at the top of the charts between 1967 and 1986 in England alone).

During his career, he has recorded over one hundred and ninety Last disks, including several of the album Non-Stop Dancing collection. In these recordings, the composer / arranger changed its musical formula going through cultures and musical genres from different countries and approaching of international artists, as quoted Richard Clayderman and Astrud Gilberto.

Significant is also his production for film and television, for which he edited the music of artists such as ABBA and Lynsey de Paul. On the big screen are among the other songs The Seduction theme from the film American Gigolo (1980) composed by Giorgio Moroder and performed by Last and Biscaya, included in the album of the same name and the famous song The Lonely Shepherd (Einsamer Hirte) , which he composed, performed with Zamfir, contained in the soundtrack of Kill Bill Vol. 1 by Quentin Tarantino.

Originally, the title was planned for the album Filmusik ohne Filme , Which Was only to Contain original compositions by James Last. This album was never released, so "The Lonely Shepherd" was published on Last's album Russland Erinnerungen (Memories of Russia). In the same year, it was Also released as a single, Which Reached 22nd on the music charts in Germany. With this recording, Gheorghe Zamfir, who had published Already a number of records, succeeded in an international breakthrough. Among other things, he accompanied James Last In His 1978 tour.

The title enjoys unbroken popularity up to today and is newly recorded by Numerous artists. A rap version by Lamar in 1999 was quite successful, as well as a version by Leo Rojas, Which enabled him to win the Television talent show Das Supertalent in December, 2011.
