Amy Elizabeth Macdonald (born 25 August 1987) is a Scottish singer-songwriter, guitarist, and recording artist. She has sold over 9 million records worldwide.[citation needed] Macdonald released her debut album This Is the Life in 2007. The singles "Mr. Rock & Roll" and "This Is the Life" from it were chart hits. The latter charted at number one in six countries, while reaching the top 10 in another 11 countries. The album reached number one in four European countries–the United Kingdom, Denmark, the Netherlands and Switzerland–and sold three million copies worldwide.

Moderate success in the American music market followed in 2008. She was a guest on shows such as The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, where she performed two singles from the album, and This Is the Life reached number ninety-two on the Billboard 200.

Macdonald's second album, A Curious Thing, was released on 8 March 2010.[2] Its lead single "Don't Tell Me That It's Over" was released in March 2010; it reached number 45 on the UK Singles Charts, number twenty-six in her native Scotland, and also went on to perform well in other European countries. Five singles have since been released from A Curious Thing. Macdonald is one of the artists who appeared with Ray Davies on his 2010 album See My Friends; she sang with him on a cover of The Kinks' 60s hit "Dead End Street". Her third album, Life in a Beautiful Light, was released on 11 June 2012.  It supplied three singles: "Slow It Down", which became a number 45 hit on the UK Singles Charts, "Pride", which charted at number 87 on the Scottish Singles Charts, and "4th of July".

On February 17, 2017, Macdonald released her fourth studio album Under Stars which was well received worldwide, including debuting at number two on the UK and Scottish Album Charts as well as performing within the top ten in Germany and New Zealand.

"Mr. Rock & Roll" is a single by Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald, released on 16 July 2007. It was her first full single after the limited online release of "Poison Prince",[1] and was released on CD and 7" vinyl. It charted at #12 on the UK Singles Chart. The song is the first track on Macdonald's debut album This Is the Life, and is her most successful single in the UK so far. This song was also featured on the BBC Olympics 2008 programming, where it was played as the show looked over the day's events.
MacDonald attracted controversy during a gig at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in 2009. Performing in front of an audience of mostly families, which included many children, MacDonald sang the words "and they'll meet one mutha fuckin' day far away." MacDonald later apologised for the gaffe. The song's main hook is instantly recognisable thanks to its copy and pasting throughout the song.

"Poison Prince" is the first single from Scottish singer-songwriter Amy MacDonald's debut album, This Is the Life, and charted at number 136 on the UK Singles Chart in 2007.[2] Its initial limited release was on 7 May 2007, and it was later re-released 19 May 2008. The lyrics were based on the life of Babyshambles and Libertines singer Pete Doherty, and were written as an ode to the troubled musician.[3]
