William Everett "Billy" Preston (September 2, 1946 – June 6, 2006) was an American musician whose work included R&B, rock, soul, funk and gospel.

A virtuoso[peacock term] keyboardist, particularly on Hammond organ, Preston was recognized as a top session musician in the 1960s, during which he backed artists such as Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and the Beatles. He then went on to achieve fame as a solo artist, with hit pop singles including "That's the Way God Planned It", "Outa-Space", "Will It Go Round in Circles", "Space Race", and "Nothing from Nothing". In addition, Preston co-wrote "You Are So Beautiful", which became a number 5 hit for Joe Cocker; Stephen Stills asked Preston if he could use his phrase "if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with" and created the hit song.

Preston was the only musician to be credited on a Beatles recording other than the group's four members: the group's number-one hit "Get Back" billed as "The Beatles with Billy Preston". Preston continued to record and perform with other artists, notably George Harrison after the Beatles' break-up, and Eric Clapton, and he played keyboards for the Rolling Stones on many of the group's albums and tours during the 1970s.

"With You I'm Born Again" is a 1979 duet performed by Motown recording artists Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright, released as a single from the soundtrack of the motion picture, Fast Break. The song was credited as "Billy Preston and Syreeta" and written by Carol Connors and David Shire.

The single became an international hit for the duo, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100, number eighty-six on the R&B chart,  and number two on the AC chart.  "With You I'm Born Again" also peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart in January 1980.  It was Preston's biggest hit in five years and the biggest pop hit of Wright's career. After the movie Fast Break had flopped, the song had been preserved on both of the singers' solo albums to keep it visible, and after breaking first in Europe, it finally began to climb the American charts in early 1980, eventually ranked by Billboard as the 21st most successful pop single of 1980.

Preston and Wright told Billboard in 1980 that the song's success as a single surprised them, because although both had loved the song when they first heard it, they hadn't envisioned it being a single at all until it began to get airplay in the European market. Both also felt the song could be interpreted in a religious context as well as being a romantic love song. Preston told writer Cary Darling, "When we saw [Fast Break], we understood it was a romantic song. But, I think of it as religious because God is love so it all inter-relates."

American singer/actress Vanessa Williams covered the song for her 2005 studio album Everlasting Love. Her version is a duet with George Benson.

"Nothing from Nothing" is a song written by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher and recorded by Billy Preston for his 1974 album The Kids & Me. The song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week in October 1974, becoming Preston's second solo chart-topper in the United States (following his 1973 hit "Will It Go Round in Circles"). It spent four and a half months on the chart.

Preston performed "Nothing from Nothing" later on Saturday Night Live—the first musical performance ever on the show. The song was also used in late 2002 for all GM bran
